This play takes some time to develop

But just hang with it. And make sure you listen to the play-by-play. Unreal.

Completely unrelated. We just had parent conferences and one of my favorite fathers, who used to write for the WSJ and is now something in economics at the embassy, told me that his first job was as a reporter in Walla Walla. I'm assuming that must have been at your paper right, or are there more than one?

Wow, no kidding! You are right to assume there's just one paper here - unless he is *really* old. The Union-Bulletin's been the only game in town - unless you count weeny little weeklies in the area - for a long time.

Depending on how old he is, he'd have been here during The Seattle Times era (the current epoch), which means it may amuse him to hear we scooped up three Blethen awards this year. Granted, that's not like working at the WSJ, but if he knows what the hell you're talking about, it will probably make him smile.

Geez, small world.

I'll mention it to him (he's about 50 I think)

As far as small worlds go--I met a woman in a pizza place in Nepal who knew a friend of mine from college.
