I'm not sure of the best way to mark Columbus Day, which after several years in the Northeast I still expect to be a big deal when it rolls around each year. Here, in sunny Walla Walla, Columbus Day is met with a shrug.
Maybe I should make a lasagna.

Here in sunny So Cal where the invasion was arguably 500 years ago and also very recent (two waves same language, different people)...
Columbus Day was a perplexing event that had no mail delivery and no open banks but otherwise went unnoticed. Schools operated as usual. Several people asked me if I had "any idea why the bank was closed today?" Being the great font of knowledge that I am I was able to tell them.
Weird.
