I have seen cool looking hotpads made out of corks, just like making a board only smaller. And my mom makes christmas ornaments that look like horses out of them. They are darling.
I like the hotpad idea. That could work and would be way more useful. Maybe I could make a cork look like a pig...
I just keep mine in a cool looking glass jar. I write notes on someof the corks for posterity - First wine in new house or Toast to new baby or write everyone's name on it after a dinner party.
