Coming next summer to a city (kinda) nearby

IKEA plans to announce Tuesday it will build a new store in Portland, near the international airport. That won't bring IKEA closer to here than it already is (there's one down the road from Sea-Tac), but it will put the store in striking distance of family.

The company's PR people note the store will be accessible by light rail (two stations) and employ 350 people. Of course, from a more selfish perspective, it will also put my impulsive and indulgent mother just a short drive from the place :)

Lucky Portland? My girlfriend lived about 10 minutes away from an Ikea before living with me. After a while, it loses it's pizzaz. Furniture without personality - fine for renting an apartment, but not for owning a condo . . . in my humble opinion. Oh, and the Swedish Meatballs. A $1.99 meal can't be the best for you :-)

That's not high on my stores I hate list: Walmart wants to build a multi-level store 1.5 miles from where I grew up (Cedar Hills Blvd and Sunset Hwy). Ugh - the traffic congestion. It's not worth it for cheap shit - Ikea or Walmart

Yeah, once you have money you can afford to be a snob I suppose. For the rest of us prols who like euro furniture, IKEA will do just fine. And 2 buck meatballs ain't gonna kill anyone if you do it only upon occasion.

As an owner of IKEA furniture including bookcases, chairs, and plant stands I must say the stuff is fair in quality (save the plant stand that broke while I was opening the packaging). However, the novelty soon wears off.
I did read an article that stated that 1 out of every 5 children in Europe was concieved on an IKEA bed...
And call me a snob if you wish but I am looking for something a bit more unique in my furniture selections...
